Enrique Riquelme, a former candidate for the Real Madrid presidency and rival of Florentino Pérez, has broken his silence in an interview with Expansión, leaving the door open to running for the presidency again while making it clear that a potential sale of the club would prompt him to act.

"It was expected that I would be there afterwards, day after day, battling, but that's not the case. I accept the result and support the team like any other Madrid fan," Riquelme said when reflecting on the election, in which he received 35% of the votes.

Asked whether he would run again, Riquelme remained ambiguous while calling for unity at the club under Florentino Pérez. "I respect the results that occurred and the only thing I ask for is unity within Real Madrid, even though there are things I don't like. Time will tell if I run again or not (...) I ran when I saw what was happening and I didn't like it from an institutional point of view."

Riquelme also identified a potential sale of Real Madrid as the "red line" that could lead him to become involved again. "The sale of the club remains a red line. I will be very attentive to any possible change in the statutes to prevent the sale from happening. I will take action if I see that happening, although I must say that I don't see it happening at the moment," he explained.

Riquelme concluded by saying "we'll see what happens in a few years," leaving open the possibility of another candidacy to challenge Florentino Pérez in the future.
