Real Madrid is going through a period of major institutional uncertainty following the presidential elections announced by Florentino Pérez.
While José Mourinho is still considered the leading candidate to become Real Madrid’s next coach if Florentino Pérez is re-elected, a new scenario has reportedly emerged involving Enrique Riquelme.
According to reports, Riquelme is accelerating preparations for a possible presidential candidacy after the early election announcement. The businessman, founder of Cox Energy, reportedly returned urgently from Latin America to continue meetings related to his potential project for the club.
As reported by El Confidencial, Riquelme has already made contact with Jürgen Klopp with the intention of making the former Liverpool coach one of the central figures of his sporting project.
Klopp has long been viewed favorably by many Real Madrid supporters, although Mourinho also continues to maintain strong backing among sections of the fanbase.
The report adds that Riquelme believes Klopp’s leadership, energy and experience rebuilding competitive teams would fit the current situation at Real Madrid.
Despite the speculation, the operation still faces major uncertainty. Riquelme has yet to officially formalize his candidacy, while Florentino Pérez remains the favorite to win the elections if opposition candidates fail to gather enough support.
Should Pérez remain in charge, Mourinho is still reportedly expected to become Real Madrid’s next manager.
