Businessman Enrique Riquelme made his first public appearance since the Real Madrid presidential elections on June 7, in which Florentino Pérez secured another term as club president.
Riquelme, who was named Businessman of the Year by Gentleman magazine, used his acceptance speech to reflect on the presidential race and hinted that he has not ruled out pursuing the role in the future.
“The Real Madrid anthem speaks of ‘veterans and newcomers’ who always look upon their laurels ‘with respect and emotion.’ That phrase perfectly encapsulates what I aspire to represent: respect for history and ambition for the future, combining experience and youthful talent, without ever losing class, whether winning or not at first. Life has shown me that great battles aren’t won solely with talent or resources; they are won when fought with solid values and the certainty that one is on the right side of history. When one builds from that foundation, with education, humility, and class, victory—the one that truly matters—eventually arrives, even if it sometimes takes longer than we would like.”
Although he did not explicitly announce a future candidacy, Riquelme's remarks suggested that he remains open to challenging for the Real Madrid presidency at a later date.
