Lyon’s latest breakout star, Endrick, currently on loan from Real Madrid, has played down the inevitable comparisons with Karim Benzema that come with his connection to both clubs. Rather than embracing the parallel, the Brazilian striker made it clear that he views the Al-Hilal forward purely as a source of inspiration.

“It’s very positive for me because he’s a great player, an incredible footballer, someone who was the best in the world,” Endrick explained.

“Still, Karim is light-years ahead of me. I hope everything goes well for him at Al Hilal,” he added.

The young forward also expressed his pride in following the path of such an iconic figure: “I’m very happy to be here, at a club where Karim played.”

Endrick’s words come amid an outstanding start to his time in France. The Brazilian has already made a strong impact at Lyon, scoring four goals and providing one assist in just four appearances.
