Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander and Valencia are the four LaLiga opponents Vinicius Jr. has missed or will miss because of the suspension he received following his red card against Villarreal. The Brazilian will not feature again in the league until after the second international break of the season, with his return expected no earlier than the match against Celta Vigo on November 21.
During his absence, Yan Diomande has taken his opportunity and established himself as an increasingly important figure for Real Madrid. The Ivorian began the season with some doubts but has since become a decisive presence in the team's attack.
Diomande scored the winning goal against Villarreal in the match in which Vinicius was sent off. He then scored and provided an assist against Sevilla before finding the net again against Racing Santander. He also played a key role against Barcelona, consistently creating danger through his dribbling, overlapping runs and ability to open up space for his teammates.
The same impact was evident against RB Leipzig, where Vinicius was available because his suspension only applies to LaLiga. Diomande came on for the Brazilian in the 70th minute and made the most of his time on the pitch, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Given his recent performances, Vinicius may find it difficult to immediately reclaim a regular starting place, with Diomande making a strong case for continued involvement in Mourinho's starting eleven.
