Real Madrid heads into another decisive weekend in LaLiga aiming to secure three points, while knowing that performances must improve to satisfy supporters. Álvaro Arbeloa is keeping the club firmly in the title race, but expectations at the Santiago Bernabéu remain extremely high.
While the pressure builds around the team, Vicente del Bosque has reopened debate about a name many believe the club has overlooked.
Speaking last Thursday on El Larguero on Cadena SER, the World Cup winning coach was initially asked about Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, but the conversation soon turned to Real Madrid matters.
Del Bosque, who still maintains strong relationships with many former players he coached, highlighted one figure in particular: Raúl González. The former captain, after his time coaching Castilla, has received interest from clubs across Spain but chose to remain patient, waiting for the right project.
Following the club’s decision to appoint Arbeloa as successor to Xabi Alonso, Del Bosque openly admitted his disappointment that Raúl was not chosen.
"You've touched a nerve, I'm very fond of him and I wish him all the best. If he hasn't gone elsewhere, it's because he didn't want to. For me, he's a coach who, at some point, could have been a candidate to manage Real Madrid. I have a lot of respect for him and of course I don't rule him out."
