Real Madrid has confirmed that David Alaba has sustained a new injury. After undergoing medical tests on Friday, the Austrian defender was diagnosed with a muscle injury in the soleus of his left leg, which will sideline him for approximately three weeks. As a result, he will miss the remainder of the FIFA Club World Cup, even if the team progresses to the final.
This setback comes as Alaba was nearing the end of his recovery from the meniscus tear he suffered in April. It adds another complication to a difficult period in his career, as he has yet to find consistency following his anterior cruciate ligament tear during the 2023–24 season.
The Club World Cup had been a key date circled on Alaba’s calendar as a potential return milestone. However, the latest injury means he will not be available for selection. Still, the defender is expected to remain with the squad in the United States, continuing his rehabilitation under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff.
