Alejandro Hernández Hernández has been appointed by the CTA to referee El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, a match that could decide the La Liga title. Javier Iglesias Villanueva will oversee VAR duties.
This will be the sixth El Clásico officiated by Hernández Hernández. His most recent meeting between the two sides came last season, when Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 4-3 on matchday 35.
Across the previous five Clásicos officiated by the referee from Arrecife, Barcelona have recorded two wins, Real Madrid one, while the remaining two matches ended in draws.
This season, Hernández Hernández has refereed two Barcelona matches, both ending in victories for the Catalan side: 2-1 against Real Sociedad and 4-1 against Espanyol. He has also officiated one Real Madrid match this campaign, the 5-1 victory over Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabéu.
