The Spanish government has taken action against Javier Tebas, filing a complaint with the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) over the LaLiga president's comparison of Real Madrid's communication strategy and television broadcasts to Nazi propaganda. Tebas could face disqualification if the proceedings result in a serious disciplinary sanction.
Tebas's future is once again in the hands of the TAD, following a complaint initiated by the Higher Sports Council (CSD). The move comes after comments he made last week in which he compared Real Madrid's communication methods to the "propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany."
"Acting on its own initiative and in the exercise of its powers, the CSD has requested the TAD, a collegiate body that is independent in its actions, to assess whether in this statement there are indications or not of a possible violation of article 76.4.b of Law 10/1990 on Sport, which considers serious infringements 'notorious and public acts that threaten sporting dignity or decorum'," the government stated in a note.
The CSD also referred to the TAD's own doctrine, based on Supreme Court jurisprudence, which links sporting dignity and decorum to maintaining civilized coexistence and mutual respect among those holding important roles in sport.
"In its reasoned request, the CSD refers to the doctrine of the TAD itself, which, based on the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court, considers that sporting dignity and decorum are related to the existence of a framework of civilized coexistence in sport, the viability of which requires mutual respect among those who perform relevant functions in this activity. The CSD considers that, from the perspective of sports institutions, it is fundamental to preserve the values that make sport a space of respect, coexistence, and fair play."
