A major blow for Xabi Alonso. Thibaut Courtois left Valdebebas before today’s session and has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Olympiacos.
The goalkeeper is suffering from gastroenteritis, which kept him from taking part in the final training session ahead of the European match and prevents him from traveling to Athens. At a crucial moment of the season, Xabi Alonso loses his first-choice goalkeeper.
Real Madrid released a medical report explaining the issue that will sideline him: “After the examination carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a gastrointestinal viral infection. He will not travel to Athens. His condition will continue to be monitored,” the club announced.
