The Ballon d'Or race is entering its decisive stage. France Football will present the award for the best footballer of the year in London on October 26. With no clear favorite and a wider group of contenders than in previous years, Kylian Mbappé has emerged as one of the leading candidates. Despite not winning any major trophies, his individual performances have placed him firmly among the contenders.
Real Madrid have now begun a strong campaign of support for their star player, with the club making it clear that they believe the number 10 deserves the award. José Mourinho started the campaign by highlighting Mbappé's "historic" performance at the World Cup, and several figures around the club have since echoed that message.
The latest example is Thibaut Courtois. As he was leaving training last Tuesday, the Belgian goalkeeper was asked about the Ballon d'Or by El Chiringuito, and his answer was clear: "I hope Kylian Mbappé wins it."
