Following the match against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu, Thibaut Courtois spoke candidly about Kylian Mbappé’s current situation. The Belgian goalkeeper emphasized that Mbappé’s issue is not a lack of scoring ability, pointing out that the forward has been showing his class in training, "scoring great goals." Courtois related Mbappé's struggles to his own early days at Real Madrid, acknowledging the challenge of adapting to the high expectations at the club.
"It's similar to what I went through. The demands at the Bernabéu and Real Madrid are intense. You know what you're getting into, but it's not always easy. The harder you try, sometimes the less it works," Courtois explained. He advised that patience and focus on the fundamentals are key to overcoming such challenges. "You need to be calm, do the simple things right, and then the more difficult things will follow. Once that happens, the goals will come."
Courtois also dismissed any claims that Mbappé’s form is due to a lack of effort or dedication. "This isn’t about professionalism or desire. It’s what I experienced too. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, things just don’t work out. He needs that breakthrough match, and I’m sure it’s coming."
The goalkeeper concluded with a message of support, hoping Mbappé’s recent goal will boost his confidence. "I think his goal came from the toughest chance he had, and I hope that helps him find his rhythm. Hopefully, he’ll score three goals against Athletic."
