Dani Ceballos’ situation at Real Madrid appears to have reached a definitive turning point. A season defined by irregular performances, limited minutes and, toward the end, an injury that halted any chance of a late resurgence has left the midfielder facing an uncertain future. Now 29 and under contract until 2027 after renewing in 2023, the player from Seville has reportedly decided that the upcoming summer transfer window will mark the end of his time at Real Madrid.
The club’s position is also clear. Real Madrid are prepared to facilitate his departure if a suitable offer arrives, although they have no intention of letting him leave without a transfer fee. Moving the midfielder on would free up salary space and potentially create room for new signings or for the continued development of young players who have impressed this season and align with both the club’s plans and Álvaro Arbeloa’s philosophy. Ceballos was already close to leaving last summer, but negotiations collapsed at the final moment.
For now, the player’s immediate focus is on returning to competition. At the end of February he was diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right soleus, with an expected recovery period of around two months. In recent weeks he has begun partial training with the squad and his full return is approaching. However, regaining fitness does not necessarily mean a greater role on the pitch. Competition in Real Madrid’s midfield has only intensified, and his place in the rotation appears weaker than it was before the injury.
All signs therefore point toward a separation once the season ends. Both the club and the player seem prepared to explore solutions that could benefit all parties during the summer window. Florentino Pérez and José Ángel Sánchez are also aware that by next summer the midfielder will be approaching the final stage of his contract, making a resolution to the situation increasingly urgent.
