A high-profile quarter-final clash has been confirmed in the Premier League International Cup, with the reserve sides of Manchester United and Real Madrid set to meet in the knockout stage. United’s Under-21s will host Castilla in a single-leg tie in Manchester, with the exact date still to be finalized pending agreement between both clubs.
Castilla secured their place in the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group A behind Everton. They progressed unbeaten, recording victories over Wolves and Everton, along with draws against Southampton and Manchester City, collecting eight points in total.
The knockout encounter will also mark the competition debut of manager Julián López de Lerma. Álvaro Arbeloa had overseen all four group-stage fixtures before the change on the bench.
