Real Madrid's upcoming presidential elections continue to generate debate, with club legend Iker Casillas finding himself at the center of controversy following his recent comments on social media.
Casillas attracted attention after commenting on the possible return of José Mourinho to the Real Madrid bench while also expressing some support for Enrique Riquelme's candidacy. His remarks sparked strong reactions online, with some supporters questioning his loyalty to the club.
The former goalkeeper responded directly to the criticism, defending both his history with Real Madrid and his commitment to the club.
"I don't need many lessons on being a Real Madrid fan," Casillas stated.
He then reflected on his lifelong connection to Real Madrid.
"I grew up at the old training ground. La Quinta. I've been with the club since I was 9. I'm Spanish. I cried with Tenerife's 2 leagues. I shouted when Mijatovic scored," Casillas recalled.
The former captain also rejected suggestions that he is aligned with any specific candidate in the presidential race.
"I don't pander to anyone. For better or worse, I'm a Real Madrid fan. I vote for Real Madrid," he declared.
Casillas' comments were intended to distance himself from any political faction within the club and reaffirm that his priority remains what he believes is best for Real Madrid.
