Speaking after Spain's win over Croatia at Euro 2024, Dani Carvajal shared, "I wanted to keep my shirt because it was my first goal with the national team, but Luka asked to exchange shirts, so of course I did it."
Carvajal waited nearly 10 years to register his first international goal, achieving this milestone on his 45th cap. At 32 years and 156 days old, he became Spain’s oldest-ever goalscorer in a European Championship.
His goal came just before half-time, following strikes from Alvaro Morata and Fabián Ruiz. During a corner routine, short passes were played, and as Croatia’s defense moved out, Carvajal timed his run perfectly to score from a central position, beating Dominik Livakovic.
Spain will face Italy next Thursday.
