Eduardo Camavinga was born in Miconge, a city in Angola, where his parents had sought refuge after fleeing the war in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. In 2003, amid the Angolan civil war—one of the longest-running conflicts on the African continent, rooted in Cold War tensions—his parents, Celestino and Sofia, made the decision to move to France with their four children in search of stability and a better future.

After brief stays in Lille and Amiens, the family eventually settled in Fougères, a town in Brittany located around 50 kilometers from Rennes. It was there that Camavinga took his first steps in football, beginning a journey that would later take him to the very top of the sport.

During the recent Christmas holidays, the Real Madrid midfielder returned to Angola with his parents and close friends. His visit was met with a warm reception from several official institutions, reflecting the significance of the occasion. The main purpose of his trip was tied to a project already close to his heart: the construction of a school and a football academy. Camavinga personally visited the land where the educational center will initially be built and officially announced the initiative during his visit to the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

“It’s a way of giving back, in a sense, everything this country has given me,” Camavinga said during the visit.

The French international shared images from his trip on social media, captured by his longtime photographer Jordan Bajo, who has worked with him since his arrival at Real Madrid. In the photos, Camavinga appears holding the Angolan flag and standing next to a portrait of the country’s president, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. Alongside the post, he reflected: “We live with immense privilege without always realizing it. Enjoy yours during these end-of-year holidays. Merry Christmas.”

Camavinga also visited an orphanage, where he donated Real Madrid jerseys bearing his name and number to the children. In addition, he publicly showed his support for the Angolan national team, which is currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations.
