Besiktas are experiencing turbulent days after an already troubled summer. Following their elimination from Europe at the hands of Lausanne, the Turkish club parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and confirmed Sergen Yalçin as their new head coach. With the domestic transfer window closing on September 12, the club’s sporting directors are racing to reinforce the squad.

The priority for the new coaching staff is clear: securing a strong and quick central defender to stabilize the back line. According to AS, the leading candidate is Raúl Asencio, who has drawn attention from several clubs—including Besiktas—after his unexpected rise into Real Madrid’s first team.

However, a transfer is off the table. The Real Madrid academy product extended his contract in June until 2031, with a €1 billion release clause, and has no intention of leaving the Santiago Bernabéu. Despite not having featured so far this season, Asencio is determined to prove himself in Madrid.

For now, Xabi Alonso has relied on Militao, Huijsen, and Rüdiger in central defense, while Asencio—who struggled in the Club World Cup—waits for his chance. Besiktas may have cast their line, but the young defender’s focus remains firmly on Real Madrid.
