The Santiago Bernabéu is in the final stages of preparation to host Pope Leo XIV, as the stadium will serve as the venue for his meeting with the diocesan community of Madrid on Monday, one of the central events of his visit to Spain, which will last until June 12.
Outside the stadium, a large banner reading “Welcome, Holy Father” will be displayed to greet the pontiff upon arrival. Inside the Bernabéu, a stage is being installed from which the Pope will address attendees, with the event also broadcast on giant screens throughout the venue.
This will mark the second papal visit to the Bernabéu. The first took place on November 3, 1982, when Pope John Paul II celebrated a liturgical event at the stadium with thousands of young people in attendance.
