A supporter of Atlético de Madrid has been arrested by the National Police for his alleged involvement in racist insults directed at Vinicius Junior, according to Europa Press.
The incident took place on April 14, hours before the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona at the Metropolitano Stadium.
According to the report, the suspect, a 27-year-old man wearing an Atlético de Madrid shirt, was filmed making racist remarks about the Real Madrid forward near the stadium. The footage was recorded by a Brazilian media outlet and quickly spread across social media, particularly in Brazil.
The widespread circulation of the images prompted authorities to launch an investigation to identify the individual involved.
The operation resulted in the suspect being located and arrested in Valencia through a joint effort by the National Police Information Brigades of Madrid and Valencia.
Police sources cited in the report indicated that the man is being investigated for an alleged hate crime.
