Raúl Asencio, who started in Real Madrid’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Arsenal, shared his thoughts after the 3-0 defeat at the Emirates. The academy graduate acknowledged the difficulties of the night but remained confident in the team’s ability to respond. “It was a difficult match. We weren’t at 100%, but I believe there’s a lot of room for improvement,” he said. “We’ll work on that, aim to put in a better performance, and turn this around with a different attitude. We’ll approach it as a team, working hard to change the dynamic.”
Asencio expressed firm belief in a comeback at the Bernabéu. “If there’s any team in the world that can turn this around, it’s us. We have to give 100% at home, and we’ll need our fans. The team is convinced we’re going to do this.”
Reflecting on what went wrong, he admitted that many things fell short of expectations. “A little bit of everything was missing. It was a very difficult game, and things didn’t go as we planned. Still, we’re holding on to the positives. We’ve got a week to work and prepare, and we need to lift ourselves up and bring the right energy to make it happen.”
Inside the locker room, the mood reflected frustration but also determination. “We’re pissed off—it wasn’t what we expected. But we’re completely convinced we can turn it around. This is Real Madrid, and our mindset is already focused on that comeback.”
