Scoring a first goal for Real Madrid is always a special moment. But doing so on a day marked by an emotional and meaningful visit made it even more unforgettable for Raúl Asencio at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“Scoring in front of our fans is incredible. It’s my first goal, but I hope there will be many more,” the defender said after the match.

The celebration carried even greater significance. Asencio pointed toward the stands, dedicating the goal to Elías, an eight-year-old boy from the Canary Islands who has been battling leukemia since 2023. The two had met weeks earlier, when Asencio visited Elías at a Madrid hospital following the child’s transplant.

“Elías lives in Madrid now, but he’s from the Canary Islands like me. He’s been fighting leukemia for a long time. Scoring on the very day he came to see me felt special. Dedicating the goal to him was the right thing to do,” Asencio explained. “He’s definitely a lucky charm, so we’ll have to invite him back more often.”

Despite their shared Canarian roots, Elías remains a devoted UD Las Palmas supporter. One of his most cherished possessions is a jersey gifted by Kirian Rodríguez, who also knows firsthand what it means to battle cancer, recover, and face setbacks again.

Asencio’s visit to the hospital took place on December 12. Now cleared to leave isolation, Elías was finally able to enjoy a match at the Bernabéu. His presence coincided with Asencio’s first goal for Real Madrid, a moment that strengthened the bond between them and continues to inspire the young boy every day.

For Elías, the relationship with the Real Madrid defender has become another reason to keep fighting, to keep believing, and to enjoy the life he deserves.
