Álvaro Arbeloa faced the media at the Santiago Bernabéu after Real Madrid’s first-leg defeat to Bayern Munich, delivering a message of realism… but also belief.

The coach admitted the result could have been different: “It’s a defeat we could perhaps have avoided in the second half with a bit more luck. We faced a very strong team, and we knew it. We made two mistakes, two turnovers… and against teams like this, you pay the price.”

Arbeloa pointed to those costly errors as decisive, while also regretting missed opportunities: “We scored a goal that gives us hope, but it’s a shame we didn’t convert some of the chances we had.”

Despite the setback, his message ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena was full of confidence: “It won’t be easy, but if any team can win in Munich, it’s Real Madrid.”

He also highlighted the team’s attacking potential and lack of preparation compared to their opponent: “We’ve shown we can hurt them and score goals. We’ll learn a lot from this. We came into this tie with very little preparation on the pitch, while they’ve had more continuity.”

Arbeloa closed with a strong and defiant statement: “Anyone who doesn’t believe it can stay in Madrid, because we’re going all out for the win in Germany.”
