Álvaro Arbeloa responded strongly to Joan Laporta’s recent comments during his press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s match against Athletic Club.
The Real Madrid coach was asked about the Barcelona president’s remarks regarding Florentino Pérez’s latest public appearance and pointed toward the Negreira case while criticizing Spanish refereeing.
“I attach very little importance to Laporta's words. We have always been very clear in everything we have discussed. I imagine he is referring to the Negreira case. We are still waiting for a resolution to such a serious case that has tarnished Spanish football for many years. After an investigation was opened, many referees who were linked to that case continued to officiate. We still have the same feeling of seeing Real Madrid players covered in blood, not having a penalty called against them, and then being rewarded by refereeing a Copa del Rey final. These are things that are not normal for us, and it is our responsibility to continue denouncing them.”
Arbeloa’s comments came moments after Laporta’s latest statements, adding further tension to the ongoing rivalry between the two clubs.
