Álvaro Arbeloa, manager of Real Madrid, responded strongly to recent remarks from Joan Laporta regarding the controversial Negreira case.

During a press conference, Arbeloa was asked about statements from Barcelona accusing Real Madrid of making similar payments to those the Catalan club allegedly made and for which they are currently under investigation.

The Real Madrid coach, who has often acknowledged the influence of José Mourinho on his managerial style, delivered a sharp response aimed directly at the Barcelona president.

“Who said it? Oh yes, candidate Laporta! I think he was the one who quadrupled the payments to Negreira. So there’s not much more to say,” Arbeloa said.

With this remark, Arbeloa placed the spotlight back on the financial and ethical management of Barcelona’s leadership, questioning Laporta’s credibility when speaking about transparency within the club. His comments quickly sparked reactions across Spanish sports media and among fans, as the controversy surrounding the payments to former refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira continues to be one of the most sensitive issues in La Liga.
