Real Madrid’s struggles this season have been particularly evident in April, a month that in recent years had often defined their success. With more than a month remaining in the campaign, the team has already been left without realistic chances of winning La Liga, a situation confirmed after the late setback at La Cartuja.

Their difficulties in the title race had been building even before that result. April proved decisive, as Real Madrid saw their hopes in both La Liga and the Champions League fade. The month began with a defeat at Son Moix, where they conceded in stoppage time through Muriqi after an early penalty incident involving Pablo Torre.

Controversy followed in Seville, where a potential penalty was ruled out due to a prior offside decision. In Europe, the team suffered defeat in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, before returning to domestic competition with another disappointing performance against Girona. In that match, referee Alberola Rojas did not award a penalty after an elbow on Mbappé that left the forward bleeding.

Real Madrid’s Champions League hopes were then ended in the return leg against Bayern Munich. Despite a more competitive display, the match turned when Camavinga was sent off by Vincic after receiving a second yellow card. The result added to a series of setbacks that defined the month.

The only positive result came against Alavés, where Real Madrid secured three points, although they were forced to defend deep in the closing stages. The atmosphere at the Bernabéu reflected growing frustration, with a reduced attendance and a sense that belief was fading.

With no matches remaining in April, Real Madrid now turn their attention to May. However, for the second consecutive season, they do so without competing for major titles.
