Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the press ahead of Real Madrid’s crucial La Liga fixture against Athletic Club, addressing both recent criticism and the club’s immediate objectives with his usual composure and clarity.

Despite Real Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League, Ancelotti remained firm in his belief in the team and the club’s direction.

“If I’m happy with the players? All I can say is thank you,” he said. “These players have given me the chance to win two Champions League titles in four years. I’ve really enjoyed working with them, and I still do.”

With some suggesting that Madrid’s focus has been too heavily placed on the Champions League, Ancelotti was quick to underline the importance of other competitions.

“Yes, the Champions League is the most important competition in this club’s history. But that doesn’t mean the Copa del Rey final or La Liga are any less valuable. They all matter,” he explained.

The Italian manager also responded to those questioning the club’s direction following their European exit.

“What hurt me most? That people would doubt a club that has won nearly 30 titles over the last decade. That, to me, is misleading,” he said.

Ancelotti was also asked whether he regretted not pushing harder for signings to strengthen the squad. His response was confident and loyal.

“I don’t regret anything. My relationship with the club is excellent—we make all our decisions together. There’s never been any conflict. Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply spreading falsehoods.”

As the team prepares for a critical final stretch of the season—including the Copa del Rey final and the race for La Liga—Ancelotti made it clear that the squad remains focused and united.

“We still have everything to fight for this season. That’s where all our attention is right now,” he concluded.
