The Brazilian forward, often a key figure in big matches, was overlooked even when Vinicius Junior had to be substituted late in the game due to an apparent injury.
Instead of turning to Rodrygo, Carlo Ancelotti brought on Castilla player Victor Muñoz in the 88th minute — a move that raised eyebrows among fans and media alike.
After the game, Ancelotti addressed the decision: “I have zero problems with him. It wasn’t any sort of punishment either. He just wasn’t at his best after the fever.”
The coach's comments suggest Rodrygo's physical condition post-illness played a role, rather than any tactical or disciplinary issue.
