In the wake of Real Madrid's painful Champions League elimination, tensions are running high among fans, and blame is beginning to circulate. One of the primary figures under scrutiny is manager Carlo Ancelotti. His position at the helm of the team is increasingly uncertain, and talk of his possible replacement is gaining momentum. Among the potential successors, Xabi Alonso has emerged as a fan favorite.
The Bayer Leverkusen coach is well aware of the speculation linking him to a return to the Santiago Bernabéu, but in a recent press conference, Alonso was quick to shut down the distractions.
“For us, the rumors about Madrid are nothing,” he stated. “We are focused on the season ahead. We have to remember that the season is not over yet. We still have five league games left to play, and we must keep that very clear in our heads.”
Alonso emphasized that speculation about the future is not something he entertains with his squad. “It’s not good for us to lose focus. I don’t want to talk too much about speculation, rumors, or the future. I’ve never done that with the players or the team. It’s not good for proper preparation.”
Despite the growing noise around his name, Alonso remains locked in on his current job. His Bayer Leverkusen side is still in the hunt for the Bundesliga title, trailing Bayern Munich by just six points with five matches to go. His contract with the German club runs until June 30, 2026.
