José Mourinho has reportedly identified Alessandro Bastoni as the defender he wants to lead Real Madrid’s back line next season.

According to journalist Miguel “Látigo” Serrano, the Portuguese coach has already convinced the Inter Milan center-back to join his project at the Santiago Bernabéu, with the player reportedly giving his approval to the move.

Bastoni, who is also said to be attracting interest from Barcelona, is regarded as one of the top defenders in European football. The Italian recently helped Inter win the Serie A title and has been a key figure in one of the continent’s strongest defensive units in recent years.

The report claims Mourinho views Bastoni as the ideal leader for his defense at Real Madrid, especially alongside young talents such as Dean Huijsen and another potential center-back signing this summer.

With Éder Militão continuing to struggle with injuries, Real Madrid are reportedly looking for a defender capable of taking control of the back line. Bastoni’s profile is considered a strong fit due to his leadership qualities, defensive reliability, and experience at the highest level.

During his time at Inter, Bastoni played an important role in helping the Italian club reach two Champions League finals in the last three seasons.

The upcoming presidential elections at Real Madrid could also influence the operation. According to the same source, negotiations with Inter Milan are expected to intensify once the electoral process is resolved following Enrique Riquelme’s official candidacy.

That situation could delay Mourinho’s arrival as well as any potential transfer talks, although the report insists the Portuguese coach has already convinced Bastoni to become one of the central figures of his project.
