The Super League project has officially been laid to rest following the agreement reached between UEFA and Real Madrid. After years of tension, and with Madrid left isolated in the initiative following Barcelona’s withdrawal, all parties have now aligned themselves “for the good of football’s future,” as stated in the official announcement.

Shortly after the deal was made public, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi broke his silence. In addition to leading the Parisian club, Al-Khelaifi serves as chairman of the European Club Association (ECA), another key body involved in the agreement with Real Madrid. Throughout the Super League saga, the Qatari executive had been firmly opposed to the breakaway competition, despite PSG initially receiving an invitation to join. He consistently supported UEFA and its president, Aleksander Ceferin.

Reacting to the historic agreement, Al-Khelaifi delivered a message that surprised many due to its conciliatory tone toward Florentino Pérez: “I thank Florentino Pérez. He is an elegant and intelligent man, a visionary who always strives to develop and improve things. Anyone who says or believes that Pérez ‘lost’ today is completely ignorant and understands nothing about football. I feel immensely proud and delighted. I want to thank everyone involved in this historic agreement. I thank the UEFA President, who works tirelessly every day for European football — an intelligent and humble leader. The most important thing is that we are all winners. No one is a loser. Football is the winner, and that is what we all wanted.”

Al-Khelaifi went even further in his praise: “I believe Florentino has become an even greater and better person today because he led Real Madrid to take steps that further benefit European football. I thank him for his trust in me, and I also thank Chelsea and Mr. Eghbali, who stood by my side throughout these negotiations.”

With these remarks, one of the Super League’s most vocal critics acknowledged Pérez’s role in reaching a resolution, marking a symbolic end to one of the most divisive chapters in modern European football.
