Volker Struth, former agent of Toni Kroos and current representative of Florian Wirtz, has revealed that his “greatest wish” was to see the German star playing for Real Madrid.
Speaking on the Phrasenmäher podcast, Struth admitted that a move to the Bernabéu was something he actively tried to make happen. “My biggest wish would have been to see Florian at Real Madrid, and I don’t think I’m the only one. Because of my history with Toni and my relationship with Real Madrid’s management, I believe he would have been very happy there,” he explained.
The agent went further, disclosing that he personally contacted Xabi Alonso during the period when Wirtz’s future was being discussed between Bayern Munich and Liverpool. “I told Xabi: ‘Take the boy. Try to talk to Florentino.’ He replied that I should speak to him myself,” Struth recounted.
He then reached out directly to Florentino Pérez. “I sent him a message recommending Florian. His reply was very kind. He thanked me and asked whether I had spoken with José Ángel Sánchez,” Struth revealed.
Despite those conversations, the transfer never materialized. Wirtz ultimately chose Liverpool, and according to Struth, a move to Madrid “wasn’t even an option” in the end. “Xabi would have liked him, but sometimes you’re not in the right place at the right time. That year he didn’t fit the squad structure or the budget. Real Madrid’s finances aren’t always limitless either. But I am certain of one thing: Florian Wirtz improves any team,” he concluded.
