FIFA named Real Madrid the Club of the 20th Century on December 11, 2000. Florentino Pérez and Alfredo Di Stéfano received the trophy during a ceremony held by the world football governing body in Rome.
Real Madrid won the trophy with more than 42% of the votes, beating out Bayern Munich and Manchester United, who received 9.69% and 9.18% of the votes, respectively, to finish second and third.
Real Madrid were honered for their accomplishments up to that point and their contribution to the advancement of football on a global level with this award.
