Real Madrid is preparing to defend their UEFA Champions League title under a new format that will debut in the 2024-25 season.
In this revamped structure, all teams will start in an initial ‘league’ phase where each club plays eight matches—four at home and four away. Seeding will be based on four pots, which could lead Real Madrid to face some of Europe’s top teams early on.
To automatically qualify for the Round of 16, Los Blancos will need to finish in the top eight, which requires them to win the majority of their games.
Some of the major opponents they might encounter in the league phase include Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, Juventus, Arsenal, and AC Milan.
