The State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport has proposed a €5,000 fine and a one-year ban from sports venues for a fan accused of throwing a banana at Vinícius Jr. during the Copa del Rey round of 16 match between Albacete Balompié and Real Madrid, played on January 14 at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium.
According to a report by the National Police’s National Sports Office, stadium cameras clearly captured the moment the object was thrown from the stands during the celebration of the home side’s final goal. The Commission has classified the incident as a serious offense under Law 19/2007, which targets violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sport, and has recommended a 12-month stadium ban for the individual involved.
