Vinicius Junior is enjoying a run of form that he hasn’t experienced before at Real Madrid.
The Brazilian is, little by little, increasing his importance in the side and consistently putting in impressive shifts to the point that Zinedine Zidane now has to find a way to fit him into the same XI as Eden Hazard.
Dispensing with Vinicius is something that Real Madrid cannot afford anymore, and it’s become clear that he’s returned from the break as another player.
A bigger impact
Always criticized for his lack of goals, the teenager was on target against Real Mallorca, scoring with his second chance and displaying great composure in doing so.
He also hit the crossbar, which he himself described as “a pity” after the match.
The talent has always been there in flashes, but Vinicius now has a confidence that’s making him unstoppable.
The lockdown hasn’t held him back at all and, if anything, it’s allowed him to build his strength.
Vinicius changed his diet and worked with a personal trainer and he’s reaping the rewards now.
“I’ve worked a lot at home for when this moment came,” he said after Mallorca, and it’s showing.
It’s clear that Zidane doesn’t have many more than four or five players who feel like certain starters at Real Madrid, but Vinicius is knocking on the door of that group now.
The 19-year-old has become one of the most important players in the squad and has an ability that few others have.
When Zidane has started him, he’s been one of the best players on the pitch and, as things stand, he’s some way ahead of Gareth Bale, Rodrygo Goes, Lucas Vazquez and even Marco Asensio.
More committed defensive efforts
Zidane has made Vinicius a more complete player who doesn’t mind doing the dirty work.
The youngster has a better understanding of what he has to do when Los Blancos aren’t in possession and he knows that he needs to put in a shift each week.
Even with Ferland Mendy playing at left-back, Vinicius didn’t relax and did all he could to help the Frenchman, who is generally solid himself anyway.
