Varane has already told Real Madrid teammates that he wants to leave

22 Mar 2019

Raphael Varane is serious about leaving Real Madrid.

At just 25, the defender has won it all at the Santiago Bernabeu and, as things stand, he wants to move on in the summer in search of a new challenge.

It is thought that he has grown tired in Madrid, and wants to freshen things up, despite the success he has enjoyed in the Spanish capital.

L’Equipe reported earlier this week that he wanted to leave and the news did not come as a surprise to his teammates at the club, as he had previously informed them of his desire to find a new side.

What first seemed unlikely has now become quite a plausible reality and Varane appears to have his heart set on wearing another club’s shirt next season.

The defender made his thoughts clear to those closest to him in the dressing room, and has since told the rest that he needs some space in order to make a decision about what is best for him and his future.

Zinedine Zidane wants to keep working with the Frenchman, and he relied on him a lot in his previous spell at the club, managing to get incredible performances out of the defender.

Despite this, Zidane is aware that if the player’s mind is made up, there’s little he can do about it.

Varane arrived at Madrid in the 2011/12 season, and first had to fight with Pepe for a place in the team, but has become a perfect partner for Sergio Ramos in recent seasons.

With a release clause of 500 million euros existing in his contract, Varane will have to negotiate his exit with the club and will have to ask them to accept a lower offer.
