Valverde’s moment of sacrifice

12 Jan 2020

Real Madrid won the Supercopa de Espana on penalties, but they had Fede Valverde to thank for making it to spot kicks.

In the 25th minute of extra time, the Uruguayan midfielder sacrificed himself to stop Alvaro Morata from breaking through and having a goalscoring opportunity.

The midfielder took the striker down outside the area as he was breaking forward, earning himself a straight red card as the last man but denying the clear one-on-one shooting opportunity.

Valverde won the award for the best player of the match for his efforts.
