It has been a very difficult year for Jesus Vallejo, who has suffered injury after injury in 2018 and who only played 10 matches for the capital city club for a total of 825 minutes.
He has had minutes in the Champions League in the dead rubber against CSKA Moscow and in the Copa del Rey tie against Melilla this season, but hasn’t featured in LaLiga Santander in 2018/19.
Although he was in the squad and on the bench in the two matches before Los Blancos jetted off for the Club World Cup, he hasn’t gotten in the pitch in a league game since the 3-2 loss at Sevilla in May.
It really has been a tough year for the 21-year-old, who has found the competition for centre-back playing time really tough even when he has been fit.
The good news for Vallejo is that he has the chance to start 2019 with renewed purpose, as Real Madrid have five league matches and their two-legged Copa del Rey tie against Leganes in January.
With so many matches coming up in a short space of time, there should be rotations and he could get some more playing time.
