The Community of Madrid have announced that public schools will be named after two sporting icons, Alfredo Di Stefano and Angel Nieto.
Di Stefano, who passed away in 2014, will have the new Public School of Valdebebas named in his honour and it will open its doors for the first time in the 2017/18 academic year.
There will be a total of 225 places for children’s education and the school will gradually expand both numbers and courses over the coming years.
The Community in the capital invested 1.8 million euros on educational, cultural and sporting facilities in Valdebebas, which has received a great deal of urban development of late.
In addition, it was also announced that Angel Nieto, who tragically died this year, will have his name put to a school in Ensanche de Vallecas.
That will operate in the facilities of the old Juan de Herrera school, which has received a large facelift, and will offer 125 places to students.
