Tottenham have reached a total agreement with Real Madrid over the signing of Sergio Reguilon.
The move is subject to a medical and will see the left-back move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for 30 million euros.
Should there be no delay, the transfer is expected to be officially confirmed on Thursday.
Manchester United had been close to sealing a deal for the Spanish international, but they didn’t want to accept Real Madrid‘s proposal of a buy-back clause.
Tottenham, however, were happy to accept Real Madrid‘s offer of a buy-back clause worth between 35 to 40 million euros.
If Los Blancos ever want to trigger that buy-back clause – when Marcelo’s contract expires in 2022, for example – they can do so.
The presence of Marcelo, plus Ferland Mendy, at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has forced Reguilon to pursue a move elsewhere.
He could be joined at Tottenham by Real Madrid teammate, Gareth Bale, who is in talks with Jose Mourinho‘s side as well.
