The series following the life of Vinicius Jr has revealed in its final episode how the player was forced to choose between Barcelona and Real Madrid, with the Brazilian making his decision in a WhatsApp discussion.
Since joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, the former Flamengo prodigy has enjoyed mixed fortunes, although his actual transfer was agreed back in May 2017.
“When I went to the South American under-17 tournament, my parents left for Barcelona, they came back and two days later they left for Madrid,” Vinicius Jr explained.
“They visited the club and looked at everything and felt that this was the place.
“Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world and the one with the most titles, I’ve always followed them and that influenced my decision of where I wanted to play, before games I would watch videos of Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The player’s agent reveals how the decision on where Vinicius Jr would go was actually confirmed to him via a WhatsApp message.
“After the South American under-17 tournament, we had five clubs from different countries that were ready to make an offer,” Lucas Mineiro explained.
“I told Vinicius that the time had come to make a decision, Real Madrid or Barcelona.
“He told me in a very simple and clear text message, ‘we’re going to the best club in the world, Real Madrid‘.”
