The possibility that concerns Real Madrid about Mbappe: Zidane at PSG

24 Nov 2021

Zinedine Zidane has been enjoying a quiet life with his family in Madrid since leaving his job at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. In the meantime, though, his phone has rung on a number of occasions with several offers.

The latest to call were Manchester United, but the Frenchman turned them away with the ‘no’ he has gotten used to giving.

According to the BBC, United called Zidane hoping to replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with the ex-Real Madrid boss, and now their attention turns to Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are reluctant to part ways with the Argentine just a year after appointing him, particularly as Thomas Tuchel left the club and won the Champions League six months later at Chelsea.

But there is a chance that Pochettino could leave and be replaced by Zidane in Paris. Zidane’s desire to coach France is well known, but that’s not on the cards until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with Didier Deschamps under contract.

The BBC have also explained that Zidane’s reported reaction of United was based on his desire to take over at the Parc des Princes.

PSG have wanted Zidane in the past, but have never been able to convince him to join, having approached him while he was still working at Real Madrid in the past and going through some turbulent times in Spain.

Pochettino, for his part, was clear with L’Equipe in saying that he hasn’t been able to leave his mark on the team so far, and some controversy was raised by his words. There have already been reports of him being a candidate for a Tottenham return since joining the club, and there are allegedly differences of opinion with Leonardo.

As a consequence of all of this, Real Madrid are fearful about the Kylian Mbappe transfer saga. Zidane’s arrival at PSG might convince the forward to stay put, at least until beyond the Qatar World Cup.

Zidane did his utmost to get Mbappe to Madrid while he was there, and the pair have always admired one another. As well, Zidane would be reunited in Paris with Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas.
