The Bernabeu is a scary place… for Real Madrid

27 Feb 2020

Manchester City were the latest side to break this Real Madrid team down at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League.

Los Blancos have won just one of their four home games in the competition this season: the 6-0 thrashing of Galatasaray in the group stages.

Both Club Brugge and Paris Saint-Germain came away with 2-2 draws at the Bernabeu before Zinedine Zidane‘s side conceded another two goals, this time in a defeat to City.

The struggles go back to last season too, with Ajax netting four times, CSKA Moscow three times and Viktoria Plzen once at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid even found it difficult to get results at home during their last successful campaign in the Champions League, going behind at the Bernabeu in each round on their way to the final in Kiev.

There have been warning signs in recent weeks too, with Real Sociedad scoring four in their Copa del Rey win and Celta Vigo scoring two in a league draw at the Bernabeu.

Each of Athletic ClubReal Betis and Real Valladolid have taken points from the Bernabeu in LaLiga Santander this season and Barcelona, who haven’t won on their last four games away from the Camp Nou, travel there on Sunday.
