Real Madrid are furious with Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez after Sunday’s derby draw with Atletico Madrid.
The official didn’t award the reigning champions a penalty in the first half at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, despite going to his pitch-side monitor and seeing Felipe handle the ball in the area.
That incident is just the latest on Los Blancos’ long list of complaints with the Canary Islander, and they have as many as 10.
1. A penalty on Varane by Rakitic (2019/20)
In last season’s Clasico at the Camp Nou, Real Madrid wanted two penalties, both for fouls on Raphael Varane. The first was a tug by Ivan Rakitic.
2. A penalty on Varane by Lenglet (2019/20)
The second incident in that same Clasico outraged Real Madrid the most, as Clement Lenglet brought down the French defender in the area, leaving the capital club furious.
3. Jose Campana’s handball (2019/20)
Against Levante, Real Madrid wanted a handball called against Jose Campana. Los Blancos ended up losing the came to a late goal.
4. Luis Suarez’s foul leading to a goal (2017/18)
In another Clasico, Suarez stole the ball from Varane by fouling the Frenchman in a move that ended in a goal. Suarez himself said that “it was a bit of a foul” afterwards.
5. Jordi Alba on Marcelo (2017/18)
That same game saw Los Blancos want a penalty for a foul by Jordi Alba on Marcelo with the scores levelled, but nothing was given.
6. Jordi Alba’s hand on Modric’s neck 2017/18)
This is another incident from that same Clasico, as Real Madrid wanted Jordi Alba sent off for grabbing Luka Modric‘s neck. He had already been booked.
7. Umtiti’s penalty foul on Cristiano Ronaldo (2016/17)
With the LaLiga Santander title at stake, Real Madrid wanted an early penalty for a foul on Cristiano Ronaldo, but nothing was given and there was no VAR then.
8. Sergio Ramos’ red card against Messi (2016/17)
Another against Barcelona, this time as Sergio Ramos was sent off for a foul on Lionel Messi, but Los Blancos claim that the dismissal was wrong.
9. Bale’s disallowed goal at the Camp Nou (2015/16)
It was Zinedine Zidane‘s first Clasico as coach and Gareth Bale scored to put Real Madrid 2-1 up. But it was ruled out for an alleged foul on Jordi Alba.
10. Felipe’s handball (2020/21)
The latest in the list came on Sunday, and Real Madrid were again miffed by Hernandez Hernandez‘s decision-making. VAR told him to review the handball, but he didn’t feel it was worthy of a penalty.
