Real Madrid’s worst ever start in the Champions League

02 Oct 2019

Real Madrid kicked off their 2019/20 Champions League campaign with one draw and one defeat in two games, which is their worst ever start in the competition.

Following their 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-GermainZinedine Zidane‘s side didn’t manage to respond with a win against Club Brugge, instead going behind 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu before salvaging a 2-2 draw.

Los Blancos only had one point from their first two games in the 2002/3 season, when they were defeated by AC Milan and drew against Lokomotiv Moscow.

In the 1995/6 campaign they started with a 1-0 defeat against Ajax, but they went on to win against Grasshoppers in their second game of the group stage.

On four different occasions, Real Madrid lost their opener but bounced back to clinch a victory in the next match.

Zidane‘s men tried to react in the second half against Club Brugge, however they couldn’t turn the game around, despite equalising with five minutes to go.

Madrid will travel to Turkey on October 22 to face Galatasaray in game that could be described as an early final for Los Blancos.
