Real Madrid now know who their playoff quarter-final rivals in the Euroleague will be. The games are set to be played between the 16th April and 1st May. They will face Panathinaikos in a repeat of last year’s quarter-finals, but Laso’s side have home court advantage. It will be the best of five games, and the first two will be played at the WiZink Center. The third will be at the Olympic Sports Center, Athens, as will the hypothetical fourth game. The fifth and final game would be played in Madrid.
Real Madrid ended up third in the Regular Season while Panathinaikos ended up in sixth position. They have faced off twice this term, with Laso’s side winning both games: 89-68 on game day 13 and 73-74 on game day 29, with a spectacular three-pointer from Rudy to beat the buzzer. Real Madrid have won 14 and lost 10, having won the last five games consecutively.
A repeat of the 2018 playoff
It is the second time the teams have met in the Euroleague quarter-finals after meeting last season. That time around, Real Madrid made it to the Final Four in Belgrade, before winning la Décima, without home court advantage. After a bad first game in Athens, the Whites reacted brilliantly and won the next three games in a playoff where Llull made his return after his serious knee injury.
