Real Madrid supporters protest against refereeing decisions

25 Nov 2017

The homogenous group of white-shirted fans, who stand behind the goal in the Fondo Sur, brandished red cards as referee Gil Manzano was about to blow the whistle to get the match underway.

Various chants also sounded out inside the ground, including “corruption in the federation!” and a ditty expressing displeasure against Sánchez Arminio, the long-serving referees chief.

Real Madrid had not been awarded a penalty in LaLiga prior to the match against Málaga, with some suggesting that erroneous refereeing had cost Los Blancos nine points across the course of the 2017-18 season.

Zinedine Zidane’s team were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute after Luis Hernández tripped Luka Modric. Cristiano Ronaldo saw his initial effort saved by Roberto, but the Portuguese made no mistake on the follow-up.
