Real Madrid register best goalkeeping stats since 1987/88

24 Dec 2019

As many as 31 years have gone by since the last time Real Madrid managed to concede just 12 goals after 18 LaLiga Santander games.

No team, bar Atletico Madrid, have allowed in fewer goals so far this season, thanks to the solid performances of Los Blancos‘ goalkeeper duo of Thibaut Courtois and Alphonse Areola.

The current Madrid goalkeepers have conceded the same number of goals as Francisco BuyoAgustin Rodriguez and Jose Manuel Ochotorena managed after 18 matches back in the 1987/88 campaign.

Since the start of the season, Courtois has kept seven clean sheets, while Areola has added another one.

The only two times Real Madrid conceded fewer goals were in 1961/62 and in 1971/72, with their opponents scoring 11 goals.
