The non-aggression pact between LaLiga rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid is on the verge of coming to a dramatic end as Los Blancos push ahead with a 24 million euro deal for left-back Theo Hernandez.
Zinedine Zidane’s side have highlighted the position as a top priority for the upcoming transfer window and the athletic, attack-minded 19-year-old is considered the ideal candidate to back up Marcelo at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Whilst on loan at Alaves, Theo has impressed many across the division and although Atletico had hoped to make him their long-term successor to Filipe Luis, Real’s offer of 24m euros comes after Los Colchoneros refused to negotiate, prompting them to meet the player’s release clause.
Atleti do not want to lose the talented defender and are set to make an attempt at convincing him to stay, although the mood is quite pessimistic following agent Manuel Garcia Quilon’s declaration that Hernandez desires a transfer across the capital.
Performing to a very high quality at Estadio Mendizorroza in 2016/17, the French Under-20 international – who is also eligible for Spain – has made 29 appearances in all competitions and leads Alaves’ stats for dribbles and assists, one of which came against Real in October.
